Based in Melkbos, Cape Town, Paul has dedicated four decades to the evolution of the South African sound, blending deep theoretical knowledge with a unique stylistic versatility that bridges African rhythms, hard rock, and contemporary jazz.

Throughout his 43-year tenure, Paul has served as a foundational session musician and arranger for numerous landmark projects. His work is characterized by a "hyper-focus" on sonic precision, notably:

 

• Genre Synthesis: Fusing the "Resistance" era African influences (Selassie) with the high-energy demands of hard rock (Shove, Addictive) and the intricate harmonic structures of jazz.

• Arrangement - Beyond performance: Paul has acted as a primary melodic architect on various recordings, most recently providing the guitar arrangements and "African-Rock soul" for Irina Vasconcelos’s 2022 album, Kai - Filhos Do Mar.

Having reached his 60th year, Paul is currently consolidating his extensive catalogue to ensure the preservation of his musical legacy. While his primary focus has always been the sanctuary of the recording studio and the craft of the instrument, he is now formalizing his administrative standing with SAMRO and SAMPRA to ensure his decades of contribution to the South African cultural landscape are accurately documented and preserved for future generations.

 

Paul Clogg is a veteran guitarist, composer, and "Guitar Architect" with a 40-year career spanning the transition from analogue soul to the digital frontier. His journey began in 1984 when he was mentored by South African guitar legend Tony Cox, leading to his first professional engagement with iconic artist Lisa Stassen. This early recognition paved the way for Paul to join the seminal anti-establishment reggae outfit Sons of Selassie, where he used music as a vehicle for resistance during the struggle era.

 

His technical prowess eventually took him to Europe, where he performed as a guitarist with international stars The Weather Girls and The Gipsy Kings. More recently, his sophisticated arrangements contributed to Irena Vasconcelos’s 2021 African Jazz Awards nomination. Today, Paul operates from his studio in Melkbos, Cape Town, where he integrates four decades of musical heritage with cutting-edge AI technology, positioning South African independent music as a formidable contender on the global stage. Work remained current in the 2020s with work and collaborations with local artists like TYLER HUNTER, LEN COLE, ART MATTHEWS, GARETH JAMES (2025 Texas Country Music Award Winner).

"The industry shift has left many veterans feeling obsolete. I intend to serve as a flagship example that AI is a tool to amplify our cultural export, not a threat to its soul. Furthermore, as a creator with ADHD, I bring a hyper-focused technical perspective to this workflow, demonstrating how neurodivergent artists can lead in this new technological landscape.

 

While the institutional barriers of the 1980s prevented the formal recording of our resistance music, those years as a guitarist for Sons of Selassie defined my commitment to music as a vehicle for social justice. This same spirit drives my current mission: using Ethical AI to ensure that no artist's voice is ever 'silenced' or 'unrecorded' by institutional barriers again."
